'Captain' Son Heung-min, 'Rookie' Lee Kang-in look to continue 'goal storm' into weekend [sports news]

Tottenham travels to Palace on the 28th and PSG travels to Brest on the 29th

South Korean national soccer team captain Son Heung-min (Tottenham) and newcomer Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain-PSG) will look to continue their goal-scoring spree this weekend.

Son Heung-min's Tottenham Hotspur will host Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in England on Aug. 28 (4 a.m. ET) in the 10th round of the 2023-2024 English Professional Soccer Premier League (EPL).

Unbeaten in nine matches (7 wins, 2 draws) since the start of the season, Tottenham is at the top of the league table with 23 points.

The team lost its signature striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich (Germany) ahead of the season, but Son Heung-min has stepped up to the plate with the captain's armband.

After becoming the first Asian player to lead the EPL in goals (23) in the 2021-2022 season, Heung-min is back to his goal-scoring best this season.

He has seven goals and one assist in nine games. He was on fire in Tottenham's 2-0 home win over Fulham in Round 9, scoring the opening goal and setting up James Maddison's second.

Their opponents, Palace, are 11th in the league (12 points) and have had some defensive ups and downs this season. They conceded four goals in their last game against Newcastle United.

Another positive for Tottenham is that Son Heung-min is a Palace killer. He has scored seven goals against Palace since joining Spurs in 2015.

He also scored a brace in the first meeting between the two sides last season in a 4-0 win.

Lee, who won a gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, scored his debut goal for Klinsmann's A side in October.

Lee's club, PSG, will host Brest in the 10th round of the French Ligue 1 at 9 p.m. on Sept. 29.

PSG is currently third in the league with 18 points, two points behind leader AS Monaco (20 points).

Lee came on as a second-half substitute against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League group stage on Oct. 26 and scored his first goal for PSG and his first Champions League goal.

Lee has continued his upward trend since returning to the club after scoring three goals and adding an assist in two October friendlies against Tunisia and Vietnam.

Their opponents, Brest, are fifth in the league (15 points).

With PSG ahead on paper, and with Kylian Mbappe, Gonzalo Higuain, and Randal Kolo Moani all finding the back of the net lately, it should be a comfortable win.

Hwang Hee-chan, who plays for Wolverhampton in the EPL, will host Newcastle on Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m. in the EPL Round 10 home game.

Wolverhampton is 12th in the league with 11 points, while Newcastle is 6th in the league with 16 points.

Hwang Hee-chan, who picked up his first assist against Bournemouth on Sept. 21, has five goals (one assist) in the league this season. 19가이드03
